Today looks decent but Tuesday and into the rest of the week will be heavily influenced by onshore flow yielding cooler temperatures, humid air, variable clouds, and possibly scattered rain/storms.
On a synoptic scale, an upper-level low pressure system is moving out of the region towards eastern Canada. Eventually high pressure will fill in that void and park over the NE US as a series of low pressure systems swing through to our south. The combination of southern-anticyclonic flow and northern cyclonic flow will drive the wind right off the Atlantic Ocean towards New Jersey. This setup should be well established by Wednesday evening and go right into the weekend. Let’s break it down by day:
Today should reach the low 80s with partly cloudy skies. Winds will be light out of the NW for most of the state. Immediate coastal regions could see a light SE sea breeze. Overnight lows will then fall back to the upper-50s and 60s heading into Tuesday morning.
Tuesday should just crack 80 again but wind direction should shift to a light southerly flow statewide. This could bring brief periods of scattered showers across the region despite a mostly sunny day. Lows then fall to the 60s overnight into Wednesday.
By Wednesday, the onshore easterly flow should be established. This will increase humidity throughout the entire state with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid-to-upper 60s. Traditionally with an easterly flow setup, variable clouds and scattered showers are possible at any time despite plenty of sun. Comfortable but muggy is probably the best description for how it will feel.
NE/SE onshore flow should range from 5-15mph on Thursday and Friday which should regulate highs in the upper-70s and keep lows in the upper 60s. Again, variable clouds and scattered showers are possible at any time despite plenty of sun. An early peek at the weekend indicates more of the same.
