Discussion: High pressure is currently moving out as a weak disturbance approaches for Friday. This should keep most of Friday unsettled and wet. NNJ elevations and possibly even lower elevations of NNJ/CNJ could see some frozen precipitation initially mix into the rain. Little-to-no accumulations are expected especially on roads. This small possibility would end rather quickly as temperatures climb early Friday morning. I expect periods of on-and-off rain to end around sunrise Saturday morning. The rest of Saturday and most of Sunday then look dry, sunny and mild. Clouds return during Sunday PM hours ahead of a wet Monday. Looks like a quick one-two punch of a warm and cold front with possibly a mid-day warm sector break between frontal passage. Tuesday-forward then looks pretty good. Highs up to at least upper-50s statewide. 60s for most with shots at 70 in the warmer interior CNJ/SNJ regions. There’s some signs of long-range high-latitude blocking which could buckle the jet stream up into a meridional state. This could produce wilder swings of temperature fluctuations in the general east-moving mid-latitude flow. No, it will not produce a major snow storm. It could however lead to severe thunderstorm weather. Let’s see how it looks next week.
Friday (April 5) high temperatures should range from near-40 to near-50 NNJ to SNJ. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely throughout the entire day. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E, breeziest for the ENJ/SENJ coast. Overnight lows should range from mid-30s to mid-40s as rain wraps up.
Saturday (April 6) high temperatures should break 60 for most areas. Interior CNJ/SNJ have the best chance to break 70. Skies should start cloudy with lingering rain for the early AM hours. Conditions should seriously improve by mid-to-late morning and last for the rest of the day. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 NNJ to SNJ.
Sunday (April 7) high temperatures should break 60 for most areas away from the ENJ/SENJ coast. Interior CNJ/SNJ and NNJ would have the best shot at breaking 70. Immediate coastal regions would likely cap-out in the 50s due to marine flow. Skies should start mostly sunny and increase in cloud coverage throughout the day. Winds should be light out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should fall to near-50 for most as rain approaches.
An early look at next week indicates sustained temperatures in the upper-50s and 60s (more shots at 70 possible for interior CNJ/SNJ). Looks like an unsettled wet start on Monday followed by dry and sunny conditions Tuesday into the weekend. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
