Discussion: There is no tropical threat for the New Jersey coast. The tropics do have to be acknowledged at this point however simply due to the pattern impact on our conditions. We were initially set to bake this week through the weekend. Now we will likely see a cold front come through late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning. This front should be mostly dry with only minor rain/thunder action. It will set the stage for “not as hot” conditions Wednesday into the weekend. So we have Tropical Storm Chris that has formed just S/SE of OBX. Chris will head off to the NE towards the N Atlantic Ocean, remaining well offshore of New Jersey this week. Tropical Storm Beryl will impact the N Lessers and then the Greater Antilles as a fizzling tropical system. Beryl’s remnants should then take a similar path out to sea next weekend. Both systems remain offshore but we end up with highs in the 80s instead of highs in the 90s Wednesday-forward. Tuesday looks like the hottest and most humid day of the week. As with any standard summer day, a widely-isolated pop-up shower or t-storm is possible any day…as is a refreshing sea breeze for the immediate coast.
Monday (July 9) high temperatures should reach into the 80s for most. I would expect interior areas to reach closer to 90 while coastal areas hang closer to 80. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the SW for most. Immediate coastal regions of SENJ could see light winds out of the E, should an afternoon sea breeze develop. Overnight lows should range from 60-70 NNJ to SNJ.
Tuesday (July 10) high temperatures should break 90 in many locations away from the ocean. Immediate coastal regions should hang in the 80s. Skies should be mostly sunny with noticeably increased humidity. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from lower-60s to lower-70s NNJ to SNJ. Light precipitation is possible overnight with the passage of a weak cold front.
Wednesday (July 11) high temperatures should reach into the 80s statewide. Skies should be partly-to-mostly cloudy with a less humid feel. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should fall as low as the mid-50s for NNJ but likely hang in the 60s for CNJ/SNJ.
Thursday (July 12) high temperatures should reach into the 80s statewide. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and summery clouds. Winds should be near-stationary with maybe a 5mph gust in any direction. Overnight lows should range from lower-60s to lower-70s NNJ to SNJ.
Friday (July 13) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s for most. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and summery clouds. Winds should be light out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should range from 60-70 NNJ to SNJ.
An early look at the weekend indicates highs near 90 away from the ocean (low-to-mid 80s for coastal regions). Seeing slightly unsettled conditions meaning mostly sunny skies with widely isolated rain/thunder cells. Let’s fine tune this in a few days. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
