Discussion: The anomalous upper-low retrograde that formed a coastal disturbance (bringing us ran bands moving N to S) is moving out to sea. We’re now poised for a beautiful summery weekend with high pressure in control of NJ and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic US. High pressure will first approach from the W (tonight and Friday) allowing for a more pleasant feel with W/NW flow at the surface. The high will then track overhead of NJ in the Friday night/Saturday morning period which should produce more of a run-of-mill summery feel. Once the high gets to the W of NJ (over the ocean), we’ll then see return flow increase humidity. This looks to be Saturday night into Sunday. But Friday-Sunday looks mostly dry. It looks like a cold front will push through overnight (Sunday into Monday AM) and drop temps/humidity for Monday-Tuesday. Then back to summer business by next Wednesday. No major storm systems in sight other than maybe some showers and thunderstorms along/ahead of the Sunday PM/Monday AM frontal passage. Otherwise a warm and summery weekend is expected.
Friday (June 24) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s for most areas away from the ocean. Coastal areas should hang in the mid-70s. Skies should be mixed…fog possible in the morning then sun and clouds. Just an ultra-small chance of an isolated shower or t-storm mainly for NWNJ but my gut feel is leaning towards a dry day for most. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 60-65 range.
Saturday (June 25) high temperatures should reach near-90 for many away from the ocean. Coastal areas should hang closer to 80. Humidity should increase by afternoon and stick around (hehe) for the rest of the weekend. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the W. Overnight lows should fall to the mid-60s.
Sunday (June 26) high temperatures should reach near-90 again for many away from the ocean. Coastal areas should again hang closer to 80. Skies should be partly-to-mostly sunny with a humid feel. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall to the mid-60s.
An early look at next week indicates a slightly cooler and drier Monday-Tuesday (upper-70s/lower-80s) followed by a warmer Wednesday into the weekend (mid-80s+). No major rain or storm systems are currently showing but cannot rule out routine afternoon summer isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially later in the week as humidity builds back again.
