Discussion: The cold front passage tomorrow has the headline for the week’s most interesting weather occurrence. S winds should pick up overnight tonight and crank tomorrow morning just ahead of the front. Watch out for minor tidal flooding along the immediate coast tonight. An area of heavy rain, gusty winds and possibly embedded thunderstorms is possible immediately along the cold front. This could produce flash flooding for all areas. This should pass through NJ from W to E between dawn and noon tomorrow. After that, winds should transition from S to W and drier conditions should ensue through Wednesday night. Most of Thursday and into Friday morning looks cold, raw and wet but the weekend looks to recover nicely with sunny highs in the 60s. The next week after that looks even nicer.
Monday (April 16) high temperatures should reach the upper-50s/lower-60s for most. This will likely happen earlier in the day before the cold front pushes through. Skies should be mostly cloudy with heavy rainfall (flash flooding possible) and gusty southerly winds likely, mainly during AM hours (from dawn to late-morning W to E). Embedded thunderstorms are possible with localized instances of severe criteria possible. Our hyper-local text alerts will keep your finger on the pulse. Everything should subside and taper off from afternoon-forward with W winds behind the cold front. Overnight lows should range from mid-30s to lower-40s NNJ to SNJ.
Tuesday (April 17) high temperatures should reach near-50 for most. Skies should be partly sunny with isolated showers possible for NNJ. Winds should be breezy out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the mid-to-upper 30s statewide.
Wednesday (April 18) high temperatures should reach the upper-50s/lower-60s statewide. Skies should be cloudier in NNJ than SNJ. Winds should be light out of the W. Overnight lows should range from upper-30s to upper-40s NNJ to SNJ.
Thursday (April 19) high temperatures should reach near-60 again. Skies should be mostly cloudy with rain likely. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E. Overnight lows should fall into the mid-to-upper 30s statewide.
Friday (April 20) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 50s for most. Skies should be partly-to-mostly cloudy. Winds should be breezy out of the N/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the mid-to-upper 30s statewide.
An early look at the weekend indicates sunny skies with highs in the 60s. We should then transition from slightly-below average temperatures to normal/slightly-above average temperatures after this weekend…highs in the upper-60s/lower-70s instead of highs in the upper-50s/lower-60s. Everyone have a great week and please be safe! JC
