Discussion: Thunderstorms are just finishing up at the coast. Some held severe right to the ocean. All areas should be clear by midnight and cool dry air is on it’s way. The upper-jet will be strong out of the NW to start this week. Combined with the swinging upper-level trough and Monday-Tuesday look below-average in temperature but sunny and pleasant. Room temperature with near-peak sun angle people! It’s going to feel amazing. Nights could get chilly however. On Wednesday we moderate with a warm front but an upper-level shortwave should pass through Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This should spin up a surface low by the time the energy gets to Cape Cod. For us that means synoptic rain, possibly embedded boomers, likely Wed PM-Thurs AM. From Thursday into the weekend upper level heights build. Most should experience dry and sunny weather but SNJ has a small chance of rain depending on how far N the SE US/S Mid-Atlantic rain makes it. As of right now all of NJ is in the clear but that’s what I’ll be watching.
Monday (June 3) high temperatures should range from mid-60s to mid-70s NNJ to SNJ. Skies should be partly-to-mostly sunny and pleasant. Winds should be breezy out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for many with coastal regions hanging in the 50s. A cool night for sure.
Tuesday (June 4) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 70s for most. NNJ elevations and coastal regions could hang in the mid-to-upper 60s. Skies should be mostly sunny and pleasant. Winds should remain breezy but more out of the W than W/NW. Overnight lows should range from upper-40s to near-60 NNJ to SNJ.
Wednesday (June 5) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most. Skies should be sunny for the first part of the day with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible during PM hours. Let’s allow the possibility for fog to form during AM hours as warm air invades the departing cooler air mass. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should only fall into the 60s for most with rain possible into Thursday AM.
Thursday (June 6) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most. Areas away from the ocean in CNJ/SNJ could take a run higher in the 80s. Skies should start rainy and cloudy early in the AM but improve by sunrise. Isolated remnant showers, maybe a boomer, are possible throughout the day with clearing by early evening. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from mid-50s to mid-60s NNJ to SNJ.
Friday (June 7) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s for most. Coastal regions could hang in the 70s. Skies should be partly-sunny. Winds should be light off the ocean, rocking from NE to SE throughout the day. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s for most with I-95 corridor areas hanging near-70 (urban heat island effect).
An early look at the weekend indicates dry and sunny conditions for at least the northern 2/3 of NJ. SNJ will be closest to the unsettled weather to our S. Right now SNJ should be nice like the rest of NJ but let’s allow some uncertainty as to how far N the rain could creep up. Let’s revisit this in a few days. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
