Not Bad for Summer
Discussion: The upper-jet will be nearby tonight (Friday) before retreating back to the N for the rest of the weekend and next week. Upper-level flow appears zonal until a weak ridge likely develops by Sunday night to set the stage for a hot and humid next week. Tonight, we have some energy moving through near the jet that could spark thunderstorms during evening hours. More hot-or-miss type stuff (broken line of storms). Those under a storm crying uncle. Those missed asking why weather people get paid to be wrong. The uuuge lately. But after tonight’s energy moves offshore, we’ll see a drier air mass move in for all of Saturday and at least the first half of Sunday. Still warm/hot but with lesser dew points (less humidity). It looks like the humidity then returns by Sunday evening and we prepare to bake in next week’s heat wave. But for this weekend, let’s just get through tonight’s storms and then enjoy a more pleasant feel until Sunday night.
Friday (July 29) high temperatures should max out in the mid-80s with a humid feel. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with thunderstorms possible during evening/overnight hours. Storms should push across NJ from W to E between 7PM and midnight and as usual (lately) not everyone will see storms. For those who do, they could reach severe criteria likely for winds. Otherwise winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from 60-70 from elevations to coasts.
Saturday (July 30) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 80s for most areas, maybe lower-90s for interior CNJ/SNJ. Skies should be mostly sunny with a few clouds around. More noticeably will be a less humid feel. A dry heat. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows could fall into the 50s for elevations but likely 60s for everyone else. Closest to 70 along immediate coast.
Sunday (July 31) high temperatures should reach the 85-90 range for most areas. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Humidity should start reasonable but increase by evening/overnight. Winds should be light and transition from W/NW to SW. Overnight lows should range from 60-70 from elevations to coasts.
An early look at next week indicates hazy, hot, and humid conditions. Another heat wave for most areas away from the immediate ocean. Isolated pop-ups possible any day, especially when sea breeze front moves in. Everyone have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
