Not Bad (April 23-25)
Discussion: The positive axis trough pattern is about to end for the E US. It’s been relentlessly holding us slightly below average in temperature and in some cases (like last night/today) well below average. The 250mb jet should make its way back over NJ on Friday. There it will stay until called upon as 500mb ridging (higher geopotential heights) builds as far out as I can see. Tonight should be the last of the unseasonably colder conditions for a while. There are more freeze and frost advisories/warnings out this evening through Friday morning. We’ll still be under lower geo heights from Friday through Monday but milder than the last few days. The warm switch should really click on for Tuesday-forward with the building of the ridge. We’re looking at a fast moving rain system (with some wind but nothing crazy) late this Saturday night into Sunday morning but the weekend looks pretty good otherwise. Daytime hours should be nice Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday (once the AM rain moves out).
Friday (April 23) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 60s. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light, possibly breezy at times, out of the W. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 from elevations to coasts.
Saturday (April 24) high temperatures should just break 70 for most. Coastal areas near the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay might hang in the mid-60s. Skies should transition from mostly sunny in the morning to mostly cloudy by sundown. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should stay close to 50 for most as rain and wind moves in.
Sunday (April 25) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 60s for most areas. Rain should end mid-to-late morning but breeze should remain and likely pick up a bit out of the W/NW. Conditions should generally improve throughout the day. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 from elevations to coasts.
An early look at next week indicates a comfortable Monday followed by a much warmer Tuesday-forward. We’re talking 70s and 80s with sun for most days. I imagine by next weekend we could see a round or two of showers and thunderstorms. Everyone have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
