Mixed Weather Expected (Mar 27-April 1)

High pressure will be the main driver this week as it floats across the Mid-Atlantic US from W to E. We’re chilly ahead of it and mild once it’s through. Some rain chances tonight into Monday and Thursday PM into Friday AM. Let’s break it down:

Monday (Mar 28) high temperatures should reach the upper-50s/lower-60s statewide. Rain is possible, especially in the AM hours. With any luck, we’ll clear before sunset but clouds could linger into the overnight hours. Winds should be gusty and rock from W/SW to W/NW as low pressure moves through. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most (30s for NNJ elevations). Winds should howl out of the W/NW overnight into Tuesday morning, allowing for even colder wind-chill factors.

Tuesday (Mar 29) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 50s statewide. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be breezy/gusty out of the W/NW for at least the first half of the day. Winds should then gradually relax heading into overnight hours as lows fall into the 20s for most (30s along the SNJ coast).

Wednesday (Mar 30) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 50s statewide. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s statewide.

Thursday (Mar 31) high temperatures should reach well into the 60s for most. 70 will likely be broken in CNJ/SNJ away from the ocean. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds with afternoon showers possible. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should only fall into the 50s statewide as rain chances increase overnight.

Friday (April 1) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 60s statewide. Rain is possible, especially during AM hours. Skies should eventually dry out heading into overnight hours. Winds should be light/breezy out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s/40s statewide.

An early look at the weekend indicates colder but dry conditions (highs in the 50s/lows flirting with below-freezing). This should represent the onset, however, of a transient cold snap that should last into early next week. The Sunday-Monday perod looks like the coldest of it. By Tuesday, temperatures should be swinging back to warm and nice. The volatile pattern of oscilalting short warm and cold periods should continue through the first half of April as we continue our transition towards the warmer New Jersey months. We’re not too-too far away from sustainable and pleasant warmth. Have a great week and be safe! JC
