The high pressure that brought us a beautiful weekend will sink into the SE US and allow a cold front to pass through on Tuesday. A low pressure disturbance could then bring some rain from the Great Lakes direction through our region in the Thursday PM-Friday AM period. If all goes well, this would set up another stellar weekend. Let’s break it down:
Monday (June 20) high temperatures should break 90 for most. Coastal regions could be held in the upper-70s/lower-80s. Humidity should be noticable. Skies should be mostly sunny but isolated instability-driven pop-up showers/thunderstorms are possible during afternoon-early evening hours (sea breeze could enhance). Winds should be light out of the S/SE. Overnight low should have trouble dropping below 70 for most.
Tuesday (June 21) high temperatures should reach into at least the 80s statewide. Rain and thunderstorms are possible earlier in the day along a cold front. This should mostly occur from early AM hours to late morning (from NW to SE). Humidity should be noticeable until the frontal passage is completely through. We will have to play radar by ear but this doesn’t look like anything too crazy. Once the front is through earlier in the day, the sun should makes its way out for most of New Jersey. We will still be on the hook to some rain/storms later in the day depending on how strong of a low pressure disturbance forms along the front over Delmarva. But all in all, this will not be an all day washout…just a period of AM rain/storms and then another period of rain/storms later in the day. Winds should be breezy out of the S/SW ahead of the front and then breezy out of the W/NW once the front is through. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s for NNJ elevations and 60s for the rest of the state with a drier feel.
Wednesday (June 22) high temperatures should reach the lower-80s for most. The coast could be held in the upper-70s. Skies should be mostly sunny with a pleasant feel…looks like a beautiful day! Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-50s for NNJ elevations and 60s for the rest of the state.
Thursday (June 23) high temperatures should reach into the 70s statewide. Skies should be partly-to-mostly cloudy with rain and thunderstorms possible (moreso for SNJ than NNJ). Winds should be light out of the SE. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-50s for NNJ elevations and 60s for the rest of the state.
Friday (June 24) high temperatures should reach into the lower-80s for most (maybe only 70s for the coast). There might be some remnant showers leftover from Thursday during AM hours. Skies should gradually give way to sun and clouds during the day. Winds should be light out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-50s for NNJ elevations and 60s for the rest of the state.
An early look at the weekend (June 25-26) currently indicates more high pressure dominance with plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Let’s revisit that on Thursday. Have a great week and be safe! JC
