Mixed Milder Weather Expected (Jan 16-20)
It could get pretty cold out tonight but the week looks milder and mixed. Let’s break it down…
Disco: I’m hesitant to use words like torch because 40s and 50s for high temperatures don’t exactly light fires. We are however beginning a stretch of milder weather unfavorable for snow storm development and that will include all of this week. I see some rain Tuesday-Wednesday from the same disturbance that recently brought ice to the Midwest US. It will be warm enough for all rain by the time it passes through our region to our NW. We should stay in this mild pattern for at least the next 10 days. The last week of January should then be an active period of transition to watch as wintry conditions are expected to return for February. I’ll have a long range article out tomorrow discussing that.
Overnight temperatures tonight should fall into the 20s statewide. Teens are possible in the usual suspect elevations and interior pines.
Monday (Jan 16) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 40s statewide. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s for most with maybe NNJ elevations dipping into the 20s.
Tuesday (Jan 17) high temperatures might struggle to crack 40 for NNJ elevations but the rest of the state should push into the mid-40s. Skies should be mostly cloudy. Rain is possible, especially during PM hours. Winds should be light out of the SE. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most with maybe NNJ elevations dipping into the 30s.
Wednesday (Jan 18) high temperatures should push into the lower-50s statewide. Skies should be mostly cloudy. Rain is possible, especially during AM hours. Skies should eventually dry out as early as afternoon but likely by evening. Winds should be light out of the N/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s statewide.
Thursday (Jan 19) high temperatures should reach the upper-40s/lower-50s. Skies should be partly sunny. Winds should be light out of the NE. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-20s/lower-30s.
Friday (Jan 20) high temperatures should reach the upper-40s/lower-50s. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the SE. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-20s/lower-30s.
An early look at the weekend indicates high pressure influence. That would mean sunny highs in the 40s/lows in the 20s/30s. I’m hesitant to say completely dry but at least mostly dry. Let’s revisit in a few days. Everyone have a great week and please be safe! JC
