Gorgeous Weekend Expected (Oct 17-19)
Even though a cold front will be moving through the region and dropping temperatures for the second half of the weekend, we’re in for a beautiful mini stretch of fall weather. The frontal passage will be a dry one so little to no precipitation is expected. Some model guidance has a few isolated sprinkles late Saturday night into early Sunday morning but I’m not really buying it. Lets look at each day:
Friday will top out in the lower 70s with mostly sunny skies and a stiff breeze. Expect 8-12mph westerly winds with gusts to 20mph. Lows then fall into the 50s statewide.
Saturday will max out a few degrees cooler than Friday with highs ranging from 65-70. Skies will again be mostly sunny with just a micro chance of sprinkle in the higher elevations of NWNJ. Winds will remain stiff out of the west (8-12mph with gusts to 20mph). Lows then drop into the 40s as the cold front starts to move through.
Sunday will feel noticeably colder with highs only in the mid-50s. Winds should be 10-15mph out of the NW with gusts to 25mph. Wind chill will make it feel even colder. Skies should be mostly sunny with just a few flat-bottom wind clouds before lows fall into the 30s for the entire state. I wouldn’t be surprised to see below-freezing temperatures in the upper elevations of NWNJ and interior pine barrens (Pigmy Pines) overnight. Monday looks like similar to Sunday with increasing clouds.
I’m currently monitoring a coastal storm that should impact New Jersey with widespread rain and moderate winds from Tuesday through at least Thursday. Will have more on that later this weekend.
