High pressure should have control for most of this week. Let’s break it down…
Nerdy Disco: High pressure is currently overhead and moving E. This should keep Monday and Tuesday rather pleasant in comparison to the weather we’ve recently seen. Wednesday looks the warmest as southerly flow associated with the W side of the high pressure in the Atlantic should set up. We’re then looking at a strong cold front Wednesday overnight into Thursday (should be another dry frontal passage) which should setup Thursday and Friday as two of the most beautiful days of the year. Beautiful weather should extend through the weekend with a slight possible warm up (more high pressure return flow) with the next rain possibility occurring early next week. Unfortunately, this great expected weather will do very little for drought concerns.
Monday (Sept 12) high temperatures should top out in the upper-70s for most. Interior CNJ/SNJ could break 80. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the ENE (possibly a little breezy off the ocean for the coast). Overnight lows should fall into the 50s/60s.
Tuesday (Sept 13) high temperatures should just break 80 for most, maybe 85 for interior CNJ/SNJ. Skies should be mostly sunny with some humidity trickling back in. Heat indices will not be as bad as last week due to the lower temperatures. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s statewide.
Wednesday (Sept 14) looks like the warmest day of the week with high temperatures reaching well into the 80s for most. Interior CNJ/SNJ has a shot of 90. Skies should be mostly sunny with elevated humidity. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s and 60s as a cold front moves through. We’re likely looking at another dry frontal passage but let’s allow a small chance of a shower overnight.
Thursday (Sept 15) looks heavenly as high temperatures top out in the 70s with low humidity. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the NW with a potential E sea breeze for the immediate coast. Overnight lows should fall into the…ready for this…40s for NNJ elevations and 50s for the rest of the state. The immediate coast might possibly hover around 60 overnight due to warmer sea surface temperature influence.
Friday (Sept 16) high temperatures should top out in the 70s statewide again. Skies should be mostly sunny and pleasant. Winds should be very light out of the S. Overnight lows should range from upper-40s again for NNJ elevations to lower-60s at the coast with most seeing 50s inland.
An early look at the weekend indicates more sunny and dry weather as high pressure is slow to depart the region. However, high pressure positioning just off our coast should bring back some humidity and warmth with southerly return flow. Temperatures should be held in the 80s so it shouldn’t feel TOO hot. Warm though. Another cold front then looks to bring a little rain in the Sunday night-Monday period. Overall, a stellar week is expected.
We’ve got a full moon on Friday at 3:09PM…the Harvest Moon…so lunar light pollution will likely cramp the style of stargazers. We should be looking at several crisp and clear nights however. Tropics remain quiet Jersey-wise. We might see a system form well out to sea this week as well as a weaker system possibly enter the gulf area over Florida. Neither system should impact NJ. Please have a great week and be safe! JC
