High pressure will sit over our general region this week. This will provide very pleasant and dry sinking air to begin closing out astronomical summer. The week starts cool and crisp but warms up as the ridge builds over the SE US. This will help boot out the trough to the NE. You’ll notice that the wind direction through the week will rock around the anti-cyclonic flow of the high pressure system. There is cool and dry air to our NW and warm and humid air to our S/SW. Therefore, as the wind direction rocks, the source changes our feel here in New Jersey. Above-average temperatures are expected but keep in mind that average for this time of year is mid-to-upper 70s. We shouldn’t see any more 90s. Unfortunately, not much rainfall is expected and allergies should surge given the sunny, dry and breezy conditions. Just keep in mind that overnight fog is possible earlier, especially earlier in the week and along the coast. Air temperatures will be more than 10 degrees cooler than ocean surface temperatures which is a classic recipe so use caution in such conditions. Let’s break the week down:
Monday high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 70s. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be breezy-to-stiff out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from mid-to-upper 40s (NNJ Elevations) to low-60s (coast)—50s for most of New Jersey.
Tuesday high temperatures should reach the upper-70s/lower-80s. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from upper-40s (NNJ Elevations) to low-60s (coast)—50s for most of New Jersey.
Wednesday high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s. Skies should be mostly sunny with noticeably warmer temperatures. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from the 50s (NNJ Elevations/interior NJ) to low-60s (coast).
Thursday high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s. Skies should be partly cloudy with continued warmer temperatures. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should range from the 50s (NNJ Elevations/interior NJ) to mid-60s (coast).
Friday high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s. Skies should be partly cloudy with continued warmer temperatures. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should range from the mid-50s (NNJ Elevations/interior NJ) to mid-to-upper 60s (coast).
An early look at the weekend indicates more of the same for Saturday but possibly a cold frontal passage on Sunday. Model guidance currently shows very little precipitation associated with the front so the dry theme might continue for a while as more high pressure looks to move in behind that front. Amazing late-summer weather at the cost of more developing drought.
