Dry Weekend Expected—Starts Cold Ends Mild (Nov 21-23)

dry weekend expected starts cool ends mild

High pressure is on its way from Canada. It will pass over the Ohio Valley and eject into the Atlantic Ocean near the Outer Banks of North Carolina. For the first half of the weekend (while the high pressure center is to our west), New Jersey should expect cold conditions. Once the high pressure center is east of New Jersey and out to sea, warmer conditions should be expected. This all results from the anti-cyclonic (clockwise) flow of the high pressure system. Let’s look at each day in English..

Friday should be sunny and cold with highs maxing out in the 30s. Winds will be out of the NW at 5-15mph with gusts to 20mph. Dress appropriately for wind chills. Overnight lows should drop into the teens and 20s statewide.

Saturday will also be mostly sunny but not as cold as Friday was. Highs should easily make it into the 40s with breezy SW winds. Overnight lows should dip below freezing again for NWNJ but hover in the mid-30s for the rest of NJ (lower elevations).

Sunday should be the warmest day of the weekend with highs in the 50s (maybe flirting with 60 for coastal/SENJ). Expect variable clouds with breezy southerly winds. Overnight lows should then drop into the 40s statewide with rain possible before midnight.

An early look at next week indicates a rainy Monday and mild week leading up to Thanksgiving.
