Discussion: The upper jet should stay to the N of NJ this week with positive 500mb geopotential anomalies in place through the weekend. This should keep conditions dry with above average temperatures through at least Saturday. Thursday looks like the warmest day of the week. No synoptic or frontal precipitation is expected, only some lighter showers possibly by the end of the weekend. The next cold shot might wait until mid-next week.
Note: Unless specifically mentioned by location (Example: NNJ elevations, SENJ immediate coast, Interior CNJ/SNJ, etc.) assume the following forecast language is statewide for New Jersey. When I say “from elevations to sea” I mean from NWNJ mountains spreading down to immediate ECNJ/SENJ coastal areas. Directions are shortened (N = North, S = South, W/SW = West/SouthWest, etc.).
Tuesday (Oct 20) high temperatures should reach near-70. Skies could again start foggy before transitioning to partly sunny. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should range from mid-50s to lower-60s from elevations to sea.
Wednesday (Oct 21) high temperatures should reach into the mid-70s. The foggy morning theme could continue before skies become partly sunny. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should fall to near-60.
Thursday (Oct 22) high temperatures should reach the mid-70s for most areas. Interior CNJ/SNJ could flirt with 80. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall to near-60.
Friday (Oct 23) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 70s. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the E. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s.
An early look at the weekend indicates mostly more of the same. Sunday however looks slightly unsettled with a few rain showers around but nothing serious. Everyone have a great week and please be safe! JC
