Aside from a few showers possible along frontal activity, this week looks pretty good. Let’s break it down…
Monday (Aug 29) high temperatures should reach the upper-80s/lower-90s statewide with interior CNJ/SNJ seeing the warmer side. Skies should be party-to-mostly sunny. The first half of the day should be more humid than the second half thanks to a weak cold front. Just a small chance of isolated showers exist just ahead of the front later in the evening but I’m rather unimpressed. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-50s/lower-60s for most. Maybe upper-60s along the coast.
Tuesday (Aug 30) high temperatures should reach the mid-80s statewide. Skies should be mostly sunny. NNJ should feel the driest. SNJ could be caught up in humidity that hasn’t fully departed with the weak front. For that reason, let’s allow another small chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms for mostly the SNJ/SENJ/ECNJ area. Winds should be light out of the E. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s/60s statewide.
Wednesday (Aug 31) high temperatures should reach the mid-80s statewide. Skies should be mostly sunny and humid. Winds should be light out of the S. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s statewide.
Thursday (Sept 1) high temperatures could have trouble breaking 80 statewide. Skies should be partly cloudy with a few morning showers possible along another cold front. Once the front is through, it should feel amazing. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s/60s statewide.
Friday (Sept 2) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s statewide. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the E/NE for most, perhaps a little breezier along the coast. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s/60s statewide.
An early look at Labor Day Weekend indicates a dry and sunny first half (Friday-Saturday) followed by a more humid second half (Sunday-Monday) as high pressure departs into the Atlantic Ocean and switches the flow from northerly to southerly.
Tropics: Gaston is steaming away from Bermuda to the NE or E/NE. Tropical Depression Eight could bring tropical storm conditions to the OBX area this Tuesday-Wednesday. Tropical Depression Nine could make landfall as a tropical storm or weak hurricane along the NE coast of the Gulf of Mexico this week and move up the SE US coast over the weekend. Any remnants from that system could be passing by to our SE early next week. This could present at least dangerous rip currents to NJ beaches during the holiday so please be careful when swimming! Follow the Eye Wall for the latest tropical information.
Stargazing: We have a new moon this week so stargazing should be pretty optimal regarding any lunar light pollution. I would say Tuesday night and Thursday night will be best due to the post-frontal passage dry lower-atmosphere. Stars should be a little clearer and more distinct on those nights.
Everyone have a great week and please be safe! JC
