Cooler Conditions (March 31-April 3)

Discussion: The upper-jet should remain mostly zonal through Wednesday before dipping S of NJ Thursday into Friday. After that, high pressure backs in from the NE and decently splits the jet to our N and S. Nothing exciting to speak of from 500mb heights point of view. A small upper-level low, hard to even call it a trough, floats through the NJ area correlating with the jet dip but that’s about it. At the surface we can expect a few isolated showers around Tuesday and Thursday but nothing to write home about. An organized synoptic system is expected to pass to the S of NJ in the Tuesday night/Wednesday morning period but too far S of NJ for NJ impacts. Once that system gets out into the Atlantic Ocean it will get trapped a little but again, too far out for NJ impacts. What NJ will see is a prolonged period of light northerly flow through this week. That will prevent anomalously mild days from occurring and generally keep it cool. These conditions look to last through this week and into the weekend.

Tuesday (March 31) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 40s for most areas. Skies should be mostly cloudy with a few isolated breaks of sun but also a few isolated showers around. Winds should be light out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should fall to the mid-to-upper 30s for most areas.

Wednesday (April 1) high temperatures should reach the lower-50s for most areas. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should range from near-30 to near-40 NNJ to SNJ.

Thursday (April 2) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 50s for most areas. Skies should be mostly sunny with a few friendly clouds. Winds should be light out of the N/NW. Overnight lows should fall to near-40 for most areas with some rain showers around (NNJ favored).

Friday (April 3) high temperatures should reach the mid-50s for most areas. Skies should be mostly cloudy. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should fall to near-40 for most areas.

An early look at the weekend indicates more of the same. Highs ranging from upper-40s to mid-50s NNJ to SNJ. Skies mixed with sun and clouds. A few spring showers around. Pretty blah, right? Let’s take another look in a few days. Everyone have a great rest of your week and please be safe! JC
