Everyone ready for some cold weather? Low pressure to our north is currently dragging a cold front through the Great Lakes which will eventually pass through New Jersey sometime tomorrow into Saturday. As expected, it looks pretty dry so only a small chance of isolated showers are possible ahead of it with most seeing dry conditions. High pressure should then move into the Ohio Valley and create a strong anti-cyclonic flow from Canada over the Great Lakes and towards our region. This will give the weather a hard kick towards late-fall conditions and could possibly even bring the first flurries of Q4. I wouldn’t hold your breath on that though as we’re not exactly there yet. Let’s break it down…
Friday should reach the low-to-mid 60s statewide. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and fall-looking clouds. Winds should be light out of the W. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s for most of New Jersey and even the 20s for NNJ elevations. Frost/freeze advisories are likely and an ultra-small chance of flurries are possible, especially for NNJ elevations.
Saturday should only reach the low-to-mid 50s statewide as the cold front will be through. Skies should feature more sun than clouds. Winds should be breezy-to-gusty out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s for most of New Jersey and even the 20s for NNJ elevations. Again, frost/freeze advisories are likely with an ultra-small chance of lake-effect flurries, especially for NNJ elevations.
Sunday looks like the coldest day of the weekend with high temperatures reaching the upper-40s for NNJ elevations and lower-50s for the rest of New Jersey. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Winds should be breezy-to-gusty out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s for most. Frost advisories are likely.
An early look at next week indicates a cold Monday morning followed by moderation in temperatures. Highs should reach the 60s again by mid-week. It then looks as if another cold front will come through in the Thursday-Friday period which could feature some light rain ahead of it. The weekend is a little out of reach for my comfort zone but in theory, a frontal passage on Thursday-Friday should bring more cool, sunny and dry weather behind it. Let’s revisit on Monday morning. Be safe and have a great weekend! JC
