Cold but Dry Weekend Expected (Feb 27-Mar 1)
We’re cold through overnight Saturday with the entire state staying below freezing for lows and highs. A few more nights of single digit temperatures are likely. On Sunday we begin to moderate some with 50s possible next week. There are also a few more wintry precip chances straddling the warm-up and cool-down but let’s get through the weekend first:
Friday should range from mid-to-upper 20s for high temperatures with partly cloudy skies and light N/NW winds. Gusts could exceed 10mph at times. Overnight lows should range from -5 (NWNJ) to 10 (SENJ).
Saturday will again hover between mid and upper 20s but with mostly sunny skies. Winds will be light out of the N/NW. Overnight lows should fall back into the negative single digits for NWNJ and single digits for SENJ.
Sunday should reach into the mid-30s for afternoon highs. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds with light S/SW winds. Overnight lows should fall into the 20s with wintry precipitation possible heading into Monday. I’ll be watching this.
Next week looks mild after whatever happens on Monday. Lower elevations of the coastal plain have a chance to reach into the 50s. There’s only one possibility of snow in the Wednesday night-Thursday period that I’m watching. Other than that, we will continue to make strides towards warmer weather. Long range analysis still points to a warmer second 2/3 of March after an average first third.
