Amazing Conditions this Week. Unsettled Weekend?
Discussion: One upper-level feature to note from 250mb wind analysis is a strong coupled upper jet over NJ in the Saturday-Sunday period later this week. This could enhance the expected rainfall in that time frame. This idea aligns with the S side trough interaction that NJ will have in the same time frame. It’s a period we’ll have to watch (Saturday PM into Sunday AM) for any enhancement of rain or storms. For earlier this week, we’re looking at ideal conditions today through Thursday. On Thursday some humidity should build back in but nothing crazy. That should last into the weekend until the rain arrives at some point Saturday. Saturday morning might be spared. We might see a few isolated showers on Friday. But from today through Thursday, it’s that bottleable magic low humidity goodness. The good news is that some more amazing conditions will move in behind this weekend for next week.
Tuesday (Sept 3) high temperatures should reach into the 70s for most NJ locations. Mid-to-upper 70s for interior CNJ/SNJ and lower 70s for NNJ elevations and coasts. Skies should be mostly sunny with a very pleasant feel due to low humidity. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should range from 45-55 from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts for most NJ locations. Immediate coastal areas should hang closer to 60 due to marine influence.
Wednesday (Sept 4) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mostly sunny with low humidity persisting. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the ENE, breezier for immediate ECNJ/SENJ coastal areas. Fog is possible in the morning as warm ocean air blows into colder overnight inland air. Overnight lows should again range from 45-55 from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts for most NJ locations. Immediate coastal areas should again hang closer to 60 due to marine influence.
Thursday (Sept 5) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. You should notice some humidity building back in. Surf could get a little rough along beaches from the persistent onshore flow. Winds should remain light-to-breezy out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should range from 55-65 from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts.
Friday (Sept 6) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun, clouds, and a few passing showers (possibly thunderstorms). Humidity should remain slightly up but nothing oppressive. Winds should remain light-to-breezy off the ocean which should keep the surf rough. Overnight lows should hover in the 60s statewide.
An early look at the weekend (Sept 7-8) indicates more highs in the 70s however Saturday looks more unsettled than Sunday overall, but Sat rain could spill into some of Sunday. Let’s take another look in a few days. Have a great rest of your week and please be safe! JC
