Interesting atmospheric dynamics will be moving across the US this week. The eastern US will be sandwiched between low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east. That’s a recipe for strong southerly winds with mild temperatures and rainfall. Lets look at each day:
Monday will feature cloudy skies and passing showers. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the mid-to-upper 60s as winds remain light out of the S/SE. Overnight lows will then fall to the upper 50s.
Tuesday will be noticeably warmer as southerly winds bring gulf air mass northward. Remember, we’ll be between a counter-clockwise spinning air mass to our west and clockwise spinning air mass to our east. Highs will reach well into the mid-70s with S/SW winds at 5-10mph. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Overnight lows should then fall into the 60s.
Wednesday should also be warmer with highs well into the mid-70s and variable clouds. Winds should be 5-10mph out of the S/SE. Clouds should increase as late-afternoon/evening hours approach and rain should fall overnight as lows drop into the mid-60s. Winds should increase through the overnight hours.
Thursday looks like the most-affected day by this passing system. Winds could be strong out of the south during the main frontal passage. The most likely scenario is moderate wind and rain from remnants of the current system our west. I’ll be keeping close watch on this. Otherwise highs should get into the lower 70s with 5-10mph S/SW winds before and after the frontal passage. Lows then drop into the 50s overnight heading into Friday.
Friday looks mostly sunny right now with highs just breaking 70 statewide. With the front being through, it will feel much cooler as overnight lows drop into the 40s. Expect a light westerly breeze. As of right now the weekend looks sunny and dry with average temperatures.
