Chowderfest Forecast
Discussion: A large area of high pressure will approach New Jersey for this weekend in the wake of Maria’s departing remnants. This should have major changes on our weather pattern, taking us from the recent warm and muggy feel to cool and crisp fall-like conditions. Some light rain is possible late Friday night into Saturday but I’m seeing a mostly dry Saturday during event hours. Both Saturday and Sunday look cool and dry with northerly winds dominating the flow. I highly recommend layered-clothing to account for both the cooler AM temperatures and warmer-feeling afternoon, especially when the sun pokes through.
Saturday (September 30) temperatures should start around 60F when Merchant Mart begins at 10AM. Afternoon high temperatures should reach the upper-60s, possibly near-70, before temperatures then fall to about the mid-60s when Merchant Mart concludes at 5PM. Skies should transition from overcast in the morning to partly sunny by afternoon. Given the upper-level instability, let’s allow a small chance for a brief afternoon isolated rain shower. Nothing of high impact to the event however. Otherwise expect a cool and crisp feel. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the north for all event hours.
Sunday (October 1) high temperatures should start out in the lower-60s when soup tasting commences at 11AM. Afternoon high temperatures should again top out in the upper-60s before soup tasting concludes at 4PM. Skies should be partly-to-mostly sunny with a cool and crisp feel for all event hours. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E/NE.
