Mixed Weather Expected (April 17-21)
Nothing crazy on tap. A few noteworthy mentions however…
Disco: A cold front will move through tonight with fizzling precipitation. Right now there are a few severe thunderstorms associated with this front in W/C PA but as diurnal heating ceases, so should the activity. NNJ and parts of CNJ could see a quick wash and possibly some rumbles but the energy should mostly fizzle by the time the front nears SNJ tomorrow morning. After the frontal passage, high pressure should move out of central Canada and stall near Nova Scotia before pulling away. This stall should set up a period of onshore flow for most of the week. This should in-theory keep the immediate coast cooler than interior NJ locations and possibly bring some mid-week showers. Eventually a synoptic system could drift through in the Thursday-Friday period which would lead to a colder weekend of N Canadian flow. Thursday-Friday rainfall would be highly dependent on low track and proximity to NJ. Let’s revisit that in a few days.
Monday (April 17) high temperatures should reach into the upper-60s/lower-70s for most. A few interior CNJ/SNJ locations could flirt with reaching 75. Skies should eventually be mixed with sun and clouds after any AM rain remnants along the cold front clear through. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most. The immediate coast could hang around 50 and NNJ elevations could see a frost with upper-30s.
Tuesday (April 18) high temperatures should reach the upper-50s/lower-60s statewide. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E (breezier along the coast). Overnight lows should fall into the 40s statewide.
Wednesday (April 19) high temperatures should be held in the 50s. Skies should be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers, especially during the afternoon. Winds should be breezy out of the SE (again breezier along the coast). Overnight lows should fall into the 40s statewide.
Thursday (April 20) high temperatures should reach the upper-60s/lower-70s statewide. Skies should be mostly cloudy with rain possible. Winds should be light out of the S. Overnight lows should fail to drop below the 50s as a warm front moves through.
Friday (April 21) high temperatures should reach the mid-60s statewide. Skies should start mostly cloudy but possibly clear and improve by evening hours. More rainfall is possible favored during AM hours. Winds should switch to the N/NW. Overnight lows should fall back into frost territory for NNJ elevations but likely just the 40s/50s for the lower 2/3 of NJ.
An early look at the weekend indicates cooler conditions behind the departing Thursday-Friday system. That should still produce highs in the upper-50s/lower-60s but it should be a noticeable drop from the warmer temperatures during the week. Overnight lows could present frost conditions for possibly even some lower elevations of CNJ/NNJ. Saturday looks like the drier day of the weekend but let’s revisit that in a few days. Thanks and have a great week. Be safe! JC
