Mostly Nice Week Expected (April 18-22)
Most of the week looks great aside from some nuisance conditions on Friday. Let’s break it down:
Monday (April 18) high temperatures have a decent chance of breaking 80 away from the ocean. Coastal areas might top out in the mid-to-upper 60s before a sea breeze backs in off the ocean and lowers coastal temperatures. You saw this yesterday. Today should be more apparent given the expected warmer surface temperatures inland (warmer inland = more inland lift = more pull of surface marine air mass onshore). Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be very light out of the NW except for the coast which again, is subject to a light E sea breeze. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-40s/lower-50s statewide.
Tuesday (April 19) high temperatures should reach the mid-70s statewide. Perhaps a few interior locations flirt with 80. Coastal regions should be closer to interior regions in temperature given the lighter wind profile. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be breezy out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most with NNJ elevations possibly dipping into frost territory.
Wednesday (April 20) high temperatures should reach the mid-60s away from the ocean and possibly only the 50s along the coast. Skies should be mostly sunny with very light winds in any direction. The coast will likely see more of a dedicated wind direction out of the E but again, very light. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most with NNJ elevations possibly dipping into frost territory again.
Thursday (April 21) high temperatures should reach into the low-70s away from the ocean and maybe mid-60s along the coast. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the SW. I have a gut feeling that temperatures could bust a little high with the warmer SW flow. Maybe interior locations take another run at 80 while coastal regions try to break 70. We’ll see. Overnight lows should only fall into the 50s statewide.
Friday (April 22) high temperatures should reach 70 statewide. Skies should be mostly cloudy with rain expected. Winds should be breezy out of the SW which is why I think we’re looking at an overall widespread warmer rainfall. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most with NNJ elevations possibly dipping into frost territory. Precipitation should taper off overnight.
An early look at the weekend indicates dry conditions with afternoon highs in the 60s/overnight lows in the 40s (NNJ elevations subject to more overnight frosts). Skies should be mostly sunny but could feature some clouds here and there. With any luck, the Friday rain will be long gone by Saturday AM sunrise. Have a great week and be safe! JC
