Warm and Rainy Week Expected (Dec 21-25)
High pressure will remain parked in the ocean off the mid-Atlantic and SE US. Strong areas of low pressure will continue to move through the Great Lakes into Canada. This setup will keep it very warm and rainy through Christmas Eve. Christmas Day through the rest of the year appears cooler but should remain well above-average for December temperatures. Let’s break it down:
Monday (Dec 21) high temperatures should reach the 50s for most (maybe upper-40s for NNJ elevations). Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most of New Jersey with the coast possibly staying in the lower-50s. Rainfall should be approaching the region.
Tuesday (Dec 22) high temperatures should range from mid-50s for NNJ elevations to lower-60s for everyone else. Skies should be mostly cloudy and overcast. Light rain/drizzle is possible. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most of New Jersey with the coast possibly staying in the 50s.
Wednesday (Dec 23) high temperatures should range from mid-50s for NNJ elevations to lower-60s for everyone else. Skies should be mostly cloudy and overcast. Rain is likely and could be heavy at times. Winds should be light out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s for most of New Jersey with the coast possibly staying in the lower-60s.
Thursday (Dec 24) high temperatures should reach the 60s for most of New Jersey. Interior regions of SNJ and CNJ should take a solid run at the 70s. Skies should be mostly cloudy with rain and even thunderstorms possible. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most of New Jersey with the coast possibly staying in the 50s.
Friday (Dec 25) high temperatures should top out around 60 statewide. Skies should eventually clear but SNJ might be subject to some rain hanging around before the front completely pushes through. Winds should be light out of the W. Overnight lows should drop into the 30s for NNJ elevations and 40s for everyone else.
An early look at the weekend indicates more mild temperatures and possibly more rainy conditions.
