Summery Week Expected (May 26-29)
High pressure will remain parked in the Atlantic Ocean to our east as multiple waves of low pressure pass through to our west. This traditionall means warm temperatures with unsettled conditions for New Jersey. Heat indices should break 90 with an overall general SW flow—which is responsible for tapping warm Gulf of Mexico air mass. During such conditions, isolated showers and thunderstorms can pop-up randomly on any day, especially during afternoon-evening hours. Also the ocean is still in the upper-50s/lower-60s so any level of onshore flow (sea breeze effect) could mean fog during evening/overnight hours. Let’s go into detail:
Tuesday should flirt with 90 away from the ocean (80-85 for the coast) for high temperatures. Skies should be sunny for most of the day as humid air continues to filter in. PM showers and thunderstorms are possible. Winds should be breezy out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the mid-to-upper 60s statewide.
Wednesday should again flirt with 90 away from the ocean (80-85 for the coast) for high temperatures. Skies should be mostly sunny with noticable humidity. Showers and thunderstorms are possible any time of day with the best chances during PM hours. Winds should be breezy out of the S/SW. Lows should fall into the mid-to-upper 60s statewide as the chance for showers and thunderstorms remains overnight.
Thursday should still be warm but maybe a few degrees cooler than Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs should reach 85 inland (80 for the coast). Expect a mixed bag of sun, clouds, and scattered showers/thunderstorms. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall to about 60 as unsettled conditons persist through sunrise on Friday.
Friday should reach the low-80s away from the ocean. Coastal regions will be held in the 70s due to oceanic influence. Skies should be mostly sunny with a lesser-but-still existent chance for showers and thunderstorms. Winds should be light out of the SE. Lows should fail to dip below 60 heading into Saturday.
An early look at the weekend indicates more warm, humid, and unsettled conditions.
